  7. XRoar is an emulator for the Dragon
  8. and Tandy range of computers. The
  9. Dragon and Tandy are eight bit home
  10. computers based on the 6809 CPU.
  11. Initially produced in Wales in early
  12. 1980s, later it spawned some variants
  13. in other countries as well. Even if
  14. using a very powerful processor - the
  15. eight bit smaller brother of the
  16. Motorola highly successful 16/32 bit
  17. 68000 and 68008 family, the lack of
  18. good peripherals, non quality software
  19. and weak user base, made the computer
  20. unpopular despite being with
  21. reasonable specifications for the
  22. period it was introduced. Nevertheless
  23. with XRoar you can experience the
  24. Dragon computer and tinker with the
  25. software available for it.

  27. The Amiga version uses ASL file
  28. requester for the selection of the
  29. virtual diskettes, cassettes or
  30. cartridges. There are 3 video modes
  31. available for selection. The YUV
  32. overlay video output mode displays on
  33. resizable window, which can be used
  34. directly on Workbench. The emulator
  35. supports Joystick via Amiga Input,
  36. have sound output and recognises
  37. several formats for diskette images,
  38. snapshots and tapes. XRoar is a new
  39. development, under constant updates
  40. but is available already for GP32,
  41. Nintendo Dual Screen, Linux and PSP.
  42. The Amiga version contributes to its
  43. wide availability. Because of legal
  44. reasons the original firmware ROM
  45. images are not included in the
  46. archive, but only a freeware
  47. replacement with very limited
  48. functionality. The replacement gives
  49. the possibility to load software,
  50. without the need of original firmware
  51. ROM image files. If you don't have any
  52. firmware images, you might like to try
  53. this one. It doesn't do anything
  54. beyond trying to boot OS9 (Dragon
  55. version), and only a few cartridge
  56. images work with it (mostly CoCo
  57. software - Dragon carts seem to always
  58. contain many more direct jumps into
  59. ROM). If you do have images, but want
  60. to try this one anyway, save it out
  61. and use "-extbas FILENAME" to load it
  62. instead of the normal Dragon 64 image.

  85. Others section. Not being that
  86. popular, nevertheless, the XRoar
  87. emulator providing Dragon emulation
  88. with enhanced functionality compared
  89. to the other Dragon emulators for
  90. Amiga, gives great entertainment for
  91. the people enjoying the retro
  92. computers and the software written for
  93. them.
